KCAA News & Events

Organization Name Change

At our Board meeting held in Nov 19, 2016, the Board of Directors approved the   change in our name from KCCA to Korean Canadian Adoptee Association (KCAA).   It was not an easy decision since KCCA held so much meaning to me personally but after 25 years it is clear that those who identify with KCCA are no longer children and we wish to reflect in our name that our organization is intended to serve all Korean Canadian adoptees not just Korean Canadian children adoptees.   We announced our new name at the Christmas Party which was received with tremendous support of all its attendees.

2017 Lunar New Year Celebration

Where:   Korean Cultural Center
                1133 Leslie Street, North York, M3C 2J6
                 416-443-8551

This event will be co-hosted by our organization and the Korean-Canadian  Cultural Association (KCCA) and many community leaders and politicians such as Kathleen Wynne will be in attendance. The event begins at 11am and is expected to end around 4pm but we ask that everyone arrive before 10:00 AM for orientation and to escort our children to the Korean traditional games activities prepared just for them.

There is no cost for the event but we ask that you send confirmation of your family’s attendance to Stephen Kranabetter at kranny@rogers.com to help us organize activities and volunteers. At this event, they will be giving away lots of prizes such as TV, round-trip tickets to Korea, and many other smaller items.  KCAA  will also be competing with other Korean Canadian Community organizations in a game of “Yut Nori” and Arm Wrestling Contest  for substantial prizes which if we win, we will be giving away at our Korean Cultural Camp. I encourage all our strong dads to attend this event.   One of the highlight of this event will be a “Hanbok Contest” for prizes.  I requested a special category for  “Non-Korean Heritage contestants”  just for us so one of our families will be guaranteed a prize.  So please arrive in your Hanboks. This is an event you won’t want to miss.

2017 Summer Heritage Camp

Where:   Pine Orchard Camp
4088 Vivian Road, Cedar Valley, Ontario

Many families have been asking about this year’s camp since we announced that we will be relocating to a new location. Due to the popularity of this site, we were only able to reserve in July for 2017 but we have already reserved this site for 3rd week of August in 2018 as per our usual camp schedule. I apologize for any inconvenience and conflict with your summer holiday planning.  This location has wonderful amenities such as basketball court, swimming pool, and campfire area with large seating.  Also, we will be spoiled by modern air-conditioned cafeteria and individual rustic cabins for each family.  This site also has camp trailer areas too.

Spaces are limited so register as early as possible with  Stephen Kranabetter at kranny@rogers.com since  cabins and trailer areas will be assigned at time of registration. We intend to keep the fees affordable and only modestly higher than the fees charged during previous camps. More details will follow in the months leading up to the camp.

Looking forward to seeing everybody there!
